Chateau St Thomas, Les Emirs, 2007  |  Value for money:
Bought at Beirut airport last year, looking for something different to the usual suspects, but still wanted a wine with some full flavour - this wine did not disappoint! Fantastic nose and a full on flavour of sweet, dark red fruits and almost creamy vanilla that is well balanced with the oak. It packs a punch, but is silky smooth and has a decent finish. Great value, looking forward to buying more on my next visit.. Rate: 80 [+]

This is an entry level wine but it is still holding up nearly five years on. The nose is all Cab but in the mouth the sweet silky Syrah is the grape that rules the roost. As I said, it's getting on a bit but I loved that slightly evolved style. Brilliant. Am told the Marquis de Beys is worth a try. let's see. Happy New Year Mike!. Rate: 90 [+]

Drank after decanting for 4 hours, aromas of black fruit and port. Full bodied with wonderful complex flavours of dark fruits, tannins quite apparent but not overwhelming, subtle flavour of cloves and a good crack of black pepper. Finish was soft and long, an extremely moreish wine for the winter months.. Rate: 85 [+]

A surprisingly good wine. Tried it repeatedly in two different countries and found it consistently good yet without any pretensions. It is a pleasant vin de soif, faultless and with an interesting complexity. I'll tell you a secret, i found it better than the "Chateau" version from the same winery. Yet this is a matter of personal preference. Fantastic value for money is a fact.. Rate: 86 [+]

Although the 2007 vintage was among my favorite lebanese wines, the 2009 does not come up to the same standard. Its attack is rougher, structure less elaborate and thinner in terms of layering, while thicker in terms of roughness. The length is average. But why couldn't enough consistency be maintained. I say this with sadness because MdB was a serious world class wine which is now back in the average midstream. By the way why wasn't there a 2008 vintage ( same feelings and question apply to the marvelous Syrah du Liban 06 which did not make it in 07 or 09).. Rate: 80 [+]

Massaya , Classic, 2009  |  Value for money:
Shiny look of red cherries with purple reflections. The nose is blend of aromatic herbs and black fruits. In the mouth the spices take over with a nice crispy finish of fruits. The texture is jovial with lots of harmony. . Rate: 91 [+]

Massaya , Silver Selection, 2008  |  Value for money:
Purple hue, spicy and leathery nose. In the mouth there is both intensity and freshness with forward fruit, mainly blackcurrants and cassis. A typical grenache style tannic structure with a balanced texture along the tasting. The finish is meral and sustained with a reppearance of the peppers. . Rate: 92 [+]
