The Nakad winery was founded in Jdeita in 1923 by current owner Selim Nakad’s father, Joseph. While Nakad has been slow to catch up with the swathe of new producers, it is a name that sits proudly alongside Château Ksara, Château Musar and Domaine des Tourelles as pioneers of the modern sector, and their wines are still thoughtfully made with skill and care. Of interest to the wine tourist is a Bronze Age wine press, unearthed in the grounds of the Nakad winery in Jdeita. Proof that the Nakads and the people of Jdeita are the heirs of a millennia-old wine making tradition? It’s a nice thought.
